The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeini Ojo has advocated for collaborative efforts between the people of the State and his Command with a view to combating security challenges in the State.
The Commissioner made the call in Ilorin, the State capital while receiving the members of the National Executive Council (NEC) of Omo Ibile Igbomina in his office.
Ojo who acknowledged that Igbomina are prominent people in the State, stressed the need for synergy between the Police and the various communitiesโ vigilante groups in the State.
His words: โThe security challenges in the State especially in Igbomina Land did not just surface in Kwara State. It was the bandits that fled from some northern States of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kebbi and others that relocated to this State because this State shares boundaries with some of these northern Sates. But with the co-operations of the communities in Igbomina Land, we have succeeded in decimating them.
โWe therefore, call on people especially the vigilante groups at the various communities to offer us useful information that can assist the Police to overcome this security challenges. The successes recorded so far were made possible with the assistance given by the vigilante groups because they on ground and they know the terrain very wellโ.
According to the Police boss, security is the responsibilities of all Nigerians. It should be joint efforts of the people and the Police, adding that no stone will be left unturned in providing adequate security for Igbomina people in particular and the people of the State in general.
Earlier, the National President of Omo Ibile Igbomina, Sir. Bisi Fakayode commended the Command for its efforts in providing security for the people in Igbomina Land during the recent security breaches in the area.
โWe really appreciate your efforts and that of your men in providing security for our people especially in recent times. The security situation has improved tremendously. As at today, we have a calm situation in Igbomina Landโ, he stated.
Fakayode who called for deployment of more security men to black spots in Igbomina Land especially in Ifelodun local government area of the State, canvassed for more synergy between the Police and communitiesโ vigilantes.
He also called for collaborative efforts between the Police, traditional rulers and Forest Guards on security, adding that there was need for the provisions of technological equipment like drones in order to wage total war against the bandits.
