Prof. Mukaila Ayanda Aremu
Prof. Mukaila Ayanda Aremu is a native of Ilala, Irepodun local Government of Kwara State. He is a distinguished Professor of Marketing at University of Ilorin since 2018. He is a distinguished academic, administrator, passionate leader, former Head of Department of Marketing, University of Ilorin and immediate Past Provost, Kwara State College of Education, Oro.
His Educational background commenced at St. Peter (Faji) Primary School Lagos Island Lagos State in 1976 and completed Primary 6 at Ilala LSMB Primary in 1982. He proceeded to Oyelagbawo Grammar School where he came out as the Best Commerce Student in 1987. He attended Kwara Polyechnic Ilorin for his IJMB A level. He received his B.Sc. degree in Business Administration with Second Class Honors Upper Division from University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, in 1998, M.Sc. degree in Management Science, Ph.D. degree in Business Administration and Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science with Distinction in 2003, 2010 and 2011 respectively from the same institution. He also has Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) from National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) / National Teachers’ Institute (NTI), Kaduna in 2015. Additionally, he has Certificates in Curriculum Development in Higher Education; Guidance and Counseling in Higher Education; Empowering Students with Special Needs; and Empowering Women for Success in Higher Education from National Universities Commission Virtual Institute for Higher Education Pedagogy in 2004 and Certificate in Data Processing and Management Information System from University of Ilorin Computer Services and Information Directorate Unit in 2004.
On Professional/Career Experience, Prof. M. A. Aremu is an active member of prominent professional and academic associations. These include: Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria; National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria; and Nigerian Institute of Management, The Academy of Management Nigeria. He is also a member and fellow of the following academic and professional bodies: Institute of Strategic Management (ISM), Nigeria; Chartered Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management (CIPDM); and Institute of Policy Management and Leadership Development (IPMLD), and Association of Business Educators of Nigeria (FABEN),
At Community Service Level, he has served as Procurement Chairman- Ilala Community Project Management Committee under Kwara State Community and Social Development Agency (KWCSDA) in 2012 till date; Treasurer, Business Cooperative, Unilorin Branch, 2015 – 2018. Zone A Coordinator, Tanke Ori-Oke Residents/Landlords Association, Ilorin in 2016 till date; National General Secretary – Igbomina / Ekiti Muslim Forum between 2014 – 2017; Member, Strategic and Special Purpose Committee and member of Welfare Committee for Igbomina / Ekiti Muslim Forum, 2011. Assistant General Secretary – Nasrul – Lahi – Fatih Society of Nigeria (NASFAT). Ogidi/ Oloje Branch, Ilorin Kwara State, Nigeria 2006 to 2010. Treasurer – IIala Progressive Union (IPU), Ilorin Branch, Kwara State Nigeria. 2007 to 2013. Arising for his mammoth contribution to his community and support for humanity, Prof. M. A. Aremu is appointed on 3rd of July, 2017 as Borokini Adinni of Ilala Kingdom, Irepodun Local Government, Kwara State. He was also conferred with the title of Otunba Bobasega of Oro Kingdom, Irepodun Local Government, Kwara State on 14th January 2023 and Fiwajoye of Ijan Otun Community also in Irepodun Local Government, Kwara State on 31st December 2025. He is currently President Oyelagbawo Grammar Sch Old Students Association, Ilorin Branch and National Treasurer Oyelagbawo Grammar Sch Old Students Association.
He won award as Outstanding Corps member by NYSC Makurdi, Benue State and Local Government 1999 NYSC Chairman’s Merit Award by Buruku Local Government, Benue State in August, 1999. He won the Best Provost from North Central Zone in Human Capital Development on 1st September 2025 at Abuja by Committee of Committee of Public Relations Executives and Information Officers of Colleges of Education in Nigeria. He is a member, Omo Ibile Igbomina 2026-2030 Transformation Agenda Implementation Coordinating Committee – 31st January 2026 and Chairman, Omo Ibile Igbomina Education Improvement Sub-Committee 31st January 2026.
He is the Chairman, Ilala School Board Management Committee (SBMC) from July 2021 to date. Prof. M. A. Aremu was the Chairman, Unilorin Petrol Station Management Board, the position he occupied since November, 2019, before his appointment as the Substantive Provost, Kwara State College of Education Oro by His Excellency, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the Executive Governor of Kwara State from 15th June, 2021 to 14th June 2026.
His teaching experience, as a University lecturer for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, has been in the Department of Business Administration, University of Ilorin (2001 – 2021); Department of Business Administration, Al – Hikmah University, Ilorin (Sabbatical leave, 2013 – 2014); Department of Marketing, Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Ilorin (2014 – 2021); Department of Educational Management, Faculty of Education, University of Ilorin (2016 – 2021); Department of Computer Science, University of Ilorin (2016 – 2021); Department of Telecommunication Science, University of Ilorin (2018 till date) and Centre for Entrepreneurship Centre (TEC) (2019- 2021). He has over seventy (70) academic publications published in reputable local, national and international journals outlets that are majorly university based.
He is an editorial board member of many outstanding journals. His research interests include Strategic Marketing, Management and Entrepreneurship.
He also held academic and administrative positions in the Department, Faculty and University. At the Departmental level, he has served at different periods as: Level Adviser (2008 – 2013); Assistant Departmental Examination Officer (2007 – 2010); Departmental Academic Secretary (2001-2002); Organiser, Master of Business Administration (MBA) Professional Programme (2012 – 2013); Coordinator, Certificate Programme – Health Information Management (HIM) and Health Planning and Management (HPM) (2011 – 2012); Project Coordinator (2004 – 2012) and Head of Department (2015 – 2017). He has also served the Faculty as: Faculty Representative, University of Ilorin Alumni Association, Unilorin Branch (2010 – 2021); Faculty Representative on CBT Committee, University of Ilorin (2014 – 2017); Faculty Representative, e-Learning Committee, University of Ilorin, Ilorin (2016 – 2017); Faculty Representative on Board of Postgraduate School, University of Ilorin, Ilorin (2019 – 2021) and Chairman, Faculty of Management Sciences Students Examination Monitoring Committee (2020 – 2021 date).
He has obediently served the University in several capacities as: Chairman, GNS 111 University Monitoring Committee (2014 – 2018); Deputy Director (Commercial), Laboratory to Product Centre (2016 – 2017); Deputy Director (Business), Unilorin Consultancy Services Centre (2017 – 2019) and University Examination Commissioners in the following Faculties: Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences – Harmattan Semester 2014/2015 session, Faculty of Agriculture – Rain Semester 2018/2019 session and Faculty of Education – Rain Semester 2014/2015 & 2019/2020 session.
He had further made significance contributions to the University Community in several ways as active member of the congregation, an active and financial member of University of Ilorin Muslim Community and former Treasurer of University of Ilorin Business Community Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. He is also a serving member of the following Committee and Council: Chairman, Special Staff Audit Committee, Appointment and Promotion Committee (A&PC), Finance and General Purpose Committee (F&GPC) and Governing Council of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin from 2018 till date.
The remarkable achievements of Professor M.A. Aremu as the Provost of Kwara State College of Education, Oro, are testament to his visionary leadership, unwavering commitment, and strategic approach to institutional growth. His legacy will undoubtedly be one of sustainable development, academic excellence, and community empowerment. The college, under his stewardship, is not just a place of learning but a thriving hub of innovation and growth. He is happily married to Professor Moriam Adeyemi Aremu and blessed with children.
